This Christmas, I received one of the most thoughtful gifts: a session of Puppy Yoga. For someone like me, whose primary love language is Physical Touch, it turned out to be more than just a cute and trendy experience—it was a way to reconnect with a deep emotional need that can sometimes feel neglected when you’re single.
The session was divided into two halves: 30 minutes of gentle yoga and 30 minutes of pure joy spent playing with 10-week-old German Shepherd puppies. As I sat on the mat, surrounded by these warm, wriggling bundles of fur, I realised just how much this experience resonated with me on a personal level.
Physical Touch has always been the way I feel most loved and connected. Whether it’s a hug from a loved one or simply holding hands, touch is how I experience comfort, reassurance, and affection. But as a single person, it’s not always easy to meet that need in everyday life.
That’s why this experience was so profound. Holding those warm, cuddly puppies, feeling their little paws and soft fur, brought me a sense of peace and fulfilment I hadn’t realised I was craving. Their unconditional love and playful energy created a safe space where I could simply enjoy being in the moment, fully immersed in touch and connection.
One thing I’ve learned is that being single doesn’t mean your emotional needs have to go unmet. Experiences like Puppy Yoga are a perfect example of how you can find creative ways to fill your emotional cup. Whether it’s through cuddling with animals, engaging in self-care rituals, or connecting with friends and loved ones, there are plenty of ways to nurture yourself.
For me, this gift was a reminder that love and connection come in many forms, not just from romantic partners. It’s about being open to moments of joy and finding ways to honour your own emotional needs.
What made this gift even more special was the thoughtfulness behind it. My youngest daughter gave it to me, she knew me well enough to understand how much I’d appreciate the physical and emotional connection it would provide. It wasn’t just a present; it was an act of love that aligned perfectly with how I experience joy and fulfilment.
Whether your love language is Physical Touch or you’re simply an animal lover, Puppy Yoga is an experience I’d recommend to anyone. It’s not just about the yoga or the puppies—it’s about the way it makes you feel. It’s a chance to slow down, connect with something warm and alive, and let go of stress while immersing yourself in a moment of pure happiness.
For me, it was a beautiful reminder that love and connection are always within reach, even if they come in the form of a furry friend.
